Adding Backup Text Message for Two-Step Verification

Last Updated: March 2026 2 min read

Overview

Two-step verification offers an additional security layer on top of your username-password combination. Google Authenticator and Authy are bound to the devices they were set up on, and in the event that something happens to your device, you can use a backup text messaging (SMS) process to regain access. Below are the steps on how to use your phone to receive backup texts.

Note: This process requires you to have an authenticator device already set up. If you have not set up Google Authenticator, please see Setting Up Two-Step Verification with Google Authenticator.

How to Add a Backup Text Message

  1. Log in to your 10Corp account.
  2. Click on the User icon located at the top right, open the drop-down menu, and click Settings.
  3. Click Two-Step Verification located in the left column under Security.
  4. On the Two-Step Verification page, you will see an option to add a backup phone number.
  5. Enter your mobile phone number and click Add Phone.
  6. You will receive a text message with a verification code. Enter this code to confirm your phone number.
  7. If successfully entered, you will see a confirmation message. If you lose your authenticator credential, simply follow the prompts at login and a one-time account recovery text message with a verification code will be sent to the number you registered.
  8. Click Back to My Account to return.

Important Notes

  • The backup text message feature is designed as a fail-safe. It should not replace your primary authenticator app.
  • Standard messaging rates from your carrier may apply.
  • Make sure the phone number you register is one you will have consistent access to.
  • We also recommend generating backup codes as an added layer of security. See Creating Backup Codes for Two-Step Verification for details.
