How to Change Your cPanel Theme

Last Updated: 2025-01-01 2 min read

cPanel offers different interface themes that change how the dashboard looks and feels. Understanding your theme options helps you work with the interface that best suits your preferences.

Available cPanel Themes

Jupiter Theme

Jupiter is the modern default theme in cPanel (introduced in cPanel version 82). It features:

  • A clean, contemporary design with responsive layout
  • A left-side navigation panel for quick access
  • Improved search functionality
  • Better mobile device support
  • Glass style option for a translucent sidebar look

Paper Lantern

Paper Lantern was the previous default theme. It features:

  • A traditional grid-style dashboard layout
  • Icon-based navigation with category groupings
  • A familiar interface for long-time cPanel users

Note: cPanel has deprecated Paper Lantern as of version 106. New installations default to Jupiter, and Paper Lantern may not be available on newer servers.

How to Change Your cPanel Theme

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Scroll down to the Preferences section.
  3. Click on Change Style (Jupiter) or Change Theme (older versions).
  4. Browse the available themes and style options.
  5. Click Apply to switch to the selected theme.

The page will reload with your new theme applied immediately.

Changing the Jupiter Theme Style

If you are already using the Jupiter theme, you can customize its appearance:

  1. Go to Preferences → Change Style.
  2. Choose between available styles such as:
    • Basic — a clean, minimal look
    • Glass — a modern translucent sidebar design
    • Dark — a dark mode option (available in newer cPanel versions)
  3. Click Apply to activate the style.

Important Notes

  • Theme changes affect only your cPanel account — other users on the same server are not affected.
  • If your hosting provider has set a custom theme, you may have limited theme options.
  • The functionality of cPanel remains the same regardless of which theme you use — only the visual appearance changes.
  • If a theme causes display issues, you can usually reset it by appending ?theme=jupiter to your cPanel URL.
  • Some tutorials and guides may show screenshots from different themes — the features and menus are the same, just arranged differently.

Which Theme Should You Use?

For most users, Jupiter is the recommended choice. It is actively maintained, has the best mobile support, and receives regular updates. Paper Lantern is only recommended if your server does not support Jupiter or you have a specific workflow that depends on the older layout.

Choosing a comfortable theme makes your day-to-day hosting management more efficient and enjoyable.
