Post-Transfer Checklist
Post-Transfer Checklist
Congratulations — your domain transfer is complete! But the job is not finished yet. Follow this checklist to ensure everything is properly configured at your new registrar.
Immediate Actions (Within 24 Hours)
1. Verify Domain Ownership
Log in to your 10Corp account and confirm the domain appears in your domain list with the correct details:
- Domain name is correct
- Expiration date reflects the one-year extension
- Domain status is Active
2. Enable Transfer Lock
Re-enable the transfer lock to protect your domain from unauthorized transfers:
- Go to Domains → My Domains and select the domain.
- Toggle Transfer Lock to On.
3. Review and Update WHOIS Information
Verify that the registrant contact details are accurate. Update if necessary:
- Registrant name and organization
- Email address
- Phone number
- Mailing address
4. Enable WHOIS Privacy
If you want your personal information hidden from public WHOIS queries, enable WHOIS privacy protection at 10Corp.
DNS and Services (Within 48 Hours)
5. Verify DNS Records
Check that all DNS records are resolving correctly:
- A records — Visit your website and confirm it loads properly.
- MX records — Send and receive test emails.
- CNAME records — Test any subdomains or aliases.
- TXT records — Verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for email authentication.
Use online DNS lookup tools or the command line (dig or nslookup) to verify records.
6. Update Nameservers (If Needed)
If you were using the previous registrar’s nameservers, update them to 10Corp’s nameservers or your preferred DNS provider. Ensure all DNS records have been recreated at the new location first.
7. Check SSL Certificates
If your website uses HTTPS, verify your SSL certificate is still valid. Domain-validated (DV) certificates tied to the domain should continue to work, but certificates provisioned by the old registrar may need renewal or replacement.
8. Test Email Delivery
Send test emails to and from your domain email addresses. Verify:
- Incoming emails arrive correctly.
- Outgoing emails are not flagged as spam.
- Email authentication (SPF, DKIM) passes checks.
Account and Billing Setup
9. Enable Auto-Renewal
Prevent accidental expiration by enabling auto-renewal:
- Go to the domain’s settings in your 10Corp dashboard.
- Turn on Auto-Renewal.
- Verify a valid payment method is on file.
10. Review Associated Services
Check if any services from the old registrar need to be replaced:
- Email hosting
- Website builder
- SSL certificates
- DNS hosting
One-Week Follow-Up
11. Monitor Website and Email
Keep an eye on website availability and email delivery for at least a week after the transfer. DNS propagation issues or missed configuration details may surface during this period.
12. Cancel Services at the Old Registrar
Once you have confirmed everything works at 10Corp, cancel or close any unused services at the old registrar to avoid unnecessary charges.
Following this checklist ensures a complete, trouble-free transition to your new registrar.
